PATIENCE CREATIVITY GRUMPINESS AND IGNORING THE SUCCESS OF OTHERS

Posted by lonelypond on March 28, 2009

And if I didn’t have a problem with it, I would have said something sensible, noble and touchy-feely like being true to myself or the journey or…

So here I am in a ferment…I hate them when I’m in them, but often something positive comes out once I’ve churned my way through so I have learned to be a little patient with them — or at least not let them totally unnerve me.

I also feel like I should be walking but this is one of those topple over in a strong wind days so I’m channelling energy through the finger and forearm muscles. And should is a verb I’ve outlawed…

Patience, patience was supposed to be a launching point for a segue involving my friend@LisaMurray , Friday’s Awesome Optimist on the Awesome Optimist youTube channel. This week’s episode: Patience. Lisa wanted to know what stopped and frustrated you. So I started thinking about that.

And then there was Gomez, in Lancaster when we were videotaping Red Sea Radio in Harrisburg for Jeremy. So I started a Twitter conversation with them and, bless them, they started a twitter conversation with @blinkkittylove which was exciting and fun and distracted me from not feeling well but also started me thinking more about Blink Kitty Love.

And then there was @nicolaz who tweeted a new blog post and I decided to read and it was about the pleasures of reading which led me to thinking about the pleasures, many and sundry of writing.

And also, the lack of gay characters in what I do…although, that’s not strictly true. It’s just something I throw at myself when I’m trying to continue creative purgatory instead of finding something to laugh at or do. “The Mystery” has a gay character at its center, should (there we go) I ever rewrite it (and as I have a really cool sequel I WANT (the word we actually need) to write), “The M” needs to happen. But I also have been stewing about Blink Kitty Love, because TK was stuck in the androgynous zone(male? female? I didn’t know) and I was so hoping either or both TK or Tinker would turn out gay but TK’s skewing guy, Tinker’s still got her crush and Tammy’s putting old school kd lang songs into my head. And yes, if you’ve ever written anything, you’ll know that characters do occasionally make up their own minds. When I was writing In The Bleak December, Sally wouldn’t listen to me at all. And that was a good thing.

So, where am I? Not writing, not walking, feeling a bit better now and I should probably stop ranting and grab the last bit of sun. Tallyho.

Red Sea Radio tonight at the Radiation Fest…we’re taking video. And if you’re in Lancaster, there’s Gomez at the Chameleon Club. So no excuses not to get out there and dance a little.

PICK PURPLE

Posted by lonelypond on March 26, 2009

Purple Day is a day to wear purple and support children with epilepsy. Flash Flash has seizures and that’s scary enough, but it must be rough to be a kid and not know when/if it’s going to happen.

One of the vaguely remembered family legends(we of Irish lineage don’t talk about doctor stuff, I think) is that my aunt was epileptic and had a hysterectomy as a result.

So for Flash and the memory of Aunt Maggie, I’m going on a hunt for my purple socks.

CHUCK JONES FEST

Posted by lonelypond on March 24, 2009

TCM is actually running Chuck Jones animations all night Tuesday and into the morn. Here’s the complete list. I’m going to at least catch Duck Amuck and The Dot and the Line, if I can’t manage all of them. Want to see the Phantom Tollbooth and a few of the ones I don’t know.

SHAKESPEARE + ANIMATION

Posted by lonelypond on March 23, 2009

Will be a trend, after we’re done with robots.

Chuck Jones, legendary Looney Tunes animator, is the subject of a short: “Chuck Jones: Memories of Childhood” airing on TCM next week, Tuesday, March 24, 8 p.m. with newly animated sketches he did of his childhood.

PBS is bringing Sir Ian McKellan as King Lear on Wednesday, March 25 at 8 p.m. in most locations. McKellan’s amazing at nearly everything and one of my favorite people to watch as a talk show guest. And as I Google for a link, I am suddenly reminded he went trouserless in the storm scene, which is a bit better than I’d like to get know Sir Ian, but I’ll just look at his eyes if PBS even decided to run it.

One of the best McKellan movies I’ve seen is Gods and Monsters with Brendan Fraser and Lynn Redgrave. Excellent dramatization/fictionalization of the last days of James Whale, the director of Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein.

Robot fish video (a little creepy) and the Reuter’s article explaining why they’re on our side (sorry FT, your online article had no pictures).

REVIEWING LIKE CRAZY (IN 3 SENTENCES OR LESS)

Posted by lonelypond on March 19, 2009

Last Chance Harvey — rent it, see it…Dustin Hoffman amazes — he finds new emotions somewhere; Emma Thompson charming; good good show.

Cars — finally watched it…some nice moments, racing very cool; scenery pale compared to the real stuff (animation can’t do sunlight+scenery). Still mired in the Pixar mawkishness.

Sonny With A Chance — funnier the second time and continuing. Disney shows hit 6-8 on the consistency scale while with Nick you’re more likely to get either 3 or a 9.

If you haven’t watched my BOOKS + INSPIRATION clip, you should. I had a lot of fun doing it and may think up some more short form topics (considering voice).

iCarly — iLook Alike a fun concept, but too out of character with Spencer getting trashed against a wall…

Hannah Montana — but we like Joannie, but Oliver would never keep a girlfriend so well, bring her back occasionally. Looking forward to the movie; The Climb still great.

Been watching What I Like About You (Beau’s fault)…early seasons better; jennie Garth actually pretty good with the physical stuff but her character gets annoying later.

Speaking of Nick and The N — yes, I do miss Radio Free Roscoe.

Still reading the Financial Times, although dropping The Economist because of time + money constraints, craving Indian food and planning for the start of The Miser.

Finished a Jonas Brothers themed Blink Kitty Love(yes, and you’ll laugh), listening to Radio Jonas on Radio Lonelypond on last.fm (Demi Lovato — Party currently up).

Have been trying to build up Radio Blink Kitty Love (thank you last.fm for your excellent widgets), but it gets a bit grim at times and I miss Radio Lonelypond.

Twitter still rocks. Trying out a Dwarven hunter and a Tauren druid in World of Warcraft — like the hunter better…always wanted to be Robin Hood.

Not reading enough…or writing…rented the new Wonder Woman movie, need to watch it tomorrow or I’ll own it. Still haven’t watched Steamboy…really need to budget NetFlix in…

Going to watch 2nd The Parent Trap soon…sad for Natasha Richardson’s family; like the first version better, but thought she + Dennis Quaid did an excellent job w/ imperfect script.

Good night, my friends. Take care of yourselves.
