QUICK CULTURE HITS

October 19, 2010

Bruno Mars “Just The Way You Are” video has an excellent organic, often subtle animation component. Watch the tape on the table.

Caught part of Chill Out, Scooby Doo on Cartoon Network this morning. Amazed at how well people move in those darn monster suits. Animated hydraulic exoskeletons FTW.

Monday night, so time for a Top Gear mention. Glad they started leaving in the “extra” 20 minutes of content instead of trimming for length. Much less choppy.

Reading: hmmm, still in a comic book mood. Reread all my post 600 Captain America/Nomad. Must figure out where I can get the backstory on Araña, who is fighting alongside Nomad. And have to track down the 2 issues of Captain America I missed. Also working my way through the Scott Pilgrims again so in the middle of Volume 4: Scott Pilgrim Gets It Together. Read The Sheriff of Yrnameer(non comic book). Some fun bits, some gross bits, a lot of derivative bits…science fiction take on “Support Your Local Sheriff” that will amuse you a little but also leave you wanting to pull out your Douglas Adams Hitchhiker’s Guides.

Waiting on the audio/video Werewolf Haiku mix.

Check out the Integrity web site for their latest moves to support gay teens + take on silence and bullying. I’m impressed with the seriousness of the response of the Episcopal Church.

Laugh-Out-Loud Cats is off the weird island and back in fine hobo form. Here’s a recent favorite.

Anybody seen Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, the musical? The FT + Entertainment Weekly make it sound like a hoot. Entertainment Weekly also sells the new + modern take on Sherlock Holmes in a Study In Pink, to be found on PBS’s Masterpiece Theatre this weekend. And here’s an excellent FT Helen Mirren interview.

And that’ll tide you over for cultural content for awhile, I think. Good night all!
