QUICK, ONE LINK

August 30, 2013

Soccer:

Neither of my teams (Boston Breakers, Seattle Reign) ended up in the NWSL playoffs, which got a Portland-Western NY final.  League front office probably thrilled.  Fox Soccer did a bait and switch on the semifinals but have decided to carry the final on Fox Soccer proper.

NBC Sports has decided to carry the entirety of the Barclays Premiere League and I’ve opted to root for Cardiff City since it’s their first year back in (so I haven’t missed out on recent rivalries or anything like that) and their owner seems entertaining.  Plus, am developing a suspicion that Wales is the new Australia.

TV:

Still watching Elementary, not happy with how Warehouse 13 chose to end their season, watching TeenNick more — Sabrina the Teenage Witch, I really am in an Archie mood…Radio Free Roscoe is back, which is good to see.  Miss Bomb Girls and The Fosters, but both should be back at some point this winter and Bomb Girls, Season 1 will be available in the USA on DVD.

New shows:  Sleepy Hollow sounds intriguing, I’ll give the Rebel Wilson show a shot, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. sounds exactly right.

Books:

Connie Willis is amazing.  Finally read Blackout and All Clear and although the middle was a bit slow, the whole of the stories and characters involved came to an amazing payoff.  Just got Lorna Doone from the library.  Going to give that a reread.

Movies:

The World’s End was great fun, so well done in every detail and Nick Frost dominated.  Want to watch Hot Fuzz again and must try Shaun of The Dead.  Have a stack of movies to rip the wrap on and sad that I haven’t been able to see Pacific Rim on a big screen again yet.  Robots won the summer movie sweepstakes for me, even if they didn’t at the box office.  Have been reading interesting things about the international version of The Grandmaster and Zi Yi Zhang’s performance.  Might have to track that down.

Music:

Joan Jett’s Unvarnished still coming out in October, The World’s End played The Sisters of Mercy over their end credits and I liked it, The Dollyrots continue working on their new album, I actually have to stop being cheap and buy a The Band Perry album (Target is not putting it on sale), and there is a Halestorm concert on the schedule.

Enjoy your weekend.  Good night.
